ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
Charles Eames, an architect and furniture designer, once said that “Details are not details, they make the product.” To further comprehend it in other words; it is the art of detailing in a design that intensifies the beauty in it. When it comes to fabricating a space, while using the architectural or designing spectrum, it is even more important to seek attention towards the detailing. We can only achieve the perfection in our spaces if only we could harmonise the important elements of architecture and design.
Elements of architecture and design
The foundation of architecture and design is based on various elements; from ‘point, line, plane and volume’ to ‘space, lines, shape, pattern, light, colour and texture’; it is only our imagination and ideas that should be most compatible with these elements. Once we discover this compatibility, it is easier to simulate that idea in reality and possible to conceptualise the design of the space. Just as we can witness in the picture below, how these different colours are presenting out the extra oomph and connecting two of the main spaces in the house.
Concept of Design
Generally, we confuse concept of a space with its theme. A theme is the recurrence of an element of design in a space where it correlates the different parts of a space; while a concept is an abstract idea to create a space, using the basic principles of design. Conceptualization of a design happens when there is a proper equilibrium in the principles of design.
Principle of Design
Unity, balance, hierarchy, contrast, emphasis, scale or proportion, and repetition; The seven principles, which form the foundation to create magical spaces that are practical as well as aesthetically breathtaking. As much as it is crucial to make a space look beautiful, it is equally important to make it efficient with its workability because after-all, a purpose is always greater than the beauty of it to build up an ideal space. What is your idea of an ideal space?
